” Hear our humble prayer, O God,
for our friends, the animals,
especially animals that are overworked,
underfed and cruelly treated;
for all wistful creatures in captivity
that beat their wings against bars,
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry,
for all that must be put death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity, and those who deal with them
we ask a heart of compassion
and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals and so to share the blessing of the merciful.”
Author - Albert Schweitzer
This Albert Schweitzers Prayer for the animals crystallizes my way of thinking about animals and human beings.
Since a little girl I have loved all animals regardless of their race, age or size. And since a little girl I have always dreamed of my own farm in the landscape with absolutely three important animals: - a rough collie (tricolour!), a persian cat (tortiesmoke!) and an Arabian horse (chestnut grey!).
Now, as a grown-up, I live in my own little farm in the middle of nowhere with some Persians, dog and two horses.
But the dreams still go on: some day I wish to have a large farm where to take all the abandoned and cruelty treated animals to get their rest of life as safe and comfortable they deserve. Maybe some day….
